Create Better, Collaborate Better

by Dan Burrier

Much has been written about getting out of the box, but perhaps the most frustrating — and useful — guidance I have received in this came from a Zen teacher who pointed out that "the instructions for getting out of the box are written on the outside of the box."

We all have some sense of "the box" as an onerous thing that stifles original thinking, solutions and creativity, something foisted upon us by external circumstances. But solving that Zen teacher's riddle help me realize that sometimes we create stifling boxes for ourselves.

The Top 7 Leadership Pitfalls That Can Derail You

by Rhonda Askeland

Now is the time to shine as a leader AND now is the time where you have the opportunities to do so.  We’ve been dealing with some tough times and organizations need people to step up like never before.

The Kentucky Derby was recently held and I find it fascinating to watch the course strategy.  The winner, as has happened in numbers of races in the past, made his move in the final quarter.  He stayed in the pack and then came up the middle when there was an opening and surged ahead to win by two lengths.  There are similarities to the role of leaders and organizational success.  It’s in times like right now that savvy people make their move.  New leaders emerge and smart leaders hone their skills to position themselves for better roles.

Briefcase Essentials

by Susan T. Spencer

Susan’s stories and examples are authentic and her advice for women who work in business, or own a company, or are thinking about starting a business is direct (“be honest with others, and above all, be honest with yourself”), practical (“women need to identify female-phobic men and find a way around them . . . because they will never change!”), pioneering (“hire diverse individuals to create a unique mix of personalities among employees, which invigorates a business”), and barrier breaking (“don’t be afraid to let men surprise you; you never know who is going to turn out to be your ally”).

This exciting saga and energizing guide roots for women to succeed and urges them to use Susan’s proven approach to tackle business issues and situations by relying on their innate talents. Briefcase Essentials: Discover Your 12 Talents For Achieving a Male Dominated Workplace.
